Top 10 SEO tools for SaaS in 2027
Top 10 SEO tools for SaaS in 2027
1. Google Search Console
The baseline for every site. It shows which queries bring clicks, which pages are indexed, and what errors Google found. One reviewer says it would be the single free tool they'd keep.

Revenue | Over $400 billion in 2025, the first year it passed that mark |
Main businesses | Search, Ads, Android, YouTube, Google Cloud and Gemini AI |
Search Console | Free tool launched in 2006 as Webmaster Tools and renamed in 2015 (from my own knowledge, not these sources) |
Cost | Free for verified site owners |
2. Ahrefs Webmaster Tools
Gives you Site Audit and Site Explorer for sites you own, after ownership verification. It's one of the best free options for backlinks and technical health. It's free forever for verified sites, but you can't research competitors.

Category | Details |
Founded | 2010 |
Founder and CEO | Dmitry Gerasimenko (also spelled Dmytro Gerasymenko) |
Other key people | Igor Pikovets (CTO) and Tim Soulo (CMO, per an interview) |
HQ | Singapore (7 Straits View, Marina One East Tower) |
Other locations | An office in San Francisco at 180 Sansome St, plus a second Singapore address, per Craft |
Legal entity | Ahrefs Pte. Ltd., a private company |
Funding | Fully bootstrapped, with no VC funding. The founder started it with about $300K in personal funds |
Revenue | An estimated $149.1M in 2024, up from about $100M in 2023 and about $86M in 2021. These come from self-reported figures on GetLatka and aren't audited |
Headcount | Estimates range from 106 to 171, with a March 2024 interview citing 125. Treat it as roughly 100-170 |
Customers | 50,000+ paying customers |
Core product | An all-in-one SEO toolkit: keyword research, backlink analysis, competitor analysis, content research, rank tracking, web monitoring and site audits. It also has AI-powered features |
Data assets | A live backlink index and its own crawler, AhrefsBot |
Other products | Yep.com, its own search engine, launched in 2022 |
Free tools | Ahrefs Webmaster Tools, now called Ahrefs Free, plus free web tools. About half of its website traffic comes from free tools built on its data |
Plans | Lite, Standard, Advanced and Enterprise, all including every tool |
Culture | Remote-friendly, product-led, and known for bootstrapped profitability |
3. PageSpeed Insights / Lighthouse
Google's speed and Core Web Vitals checker. Lighthouse is built into Chrome DevTools, so you can audit pages behind a login too. It scores performance, accessibility and SEO basics.

Category | Details |
Maker | Google (Alphabet), a free tool with no separate company behind it |
PageSpeed Insights (PSI) | A web tool at pagespeed.web.dev for spot-checking a single URL. It shows lab data generated by Lighthouse (simulated test) alongside field data from real Chrome users |
Lighthouse | The open-source auditing engine behind PSI. It's built into Chrome (F12 > Lighthouse tab), so it can audit pages behind a login, which PSI can't |
Categories scored | Performance, accessibility and SEO, per your note. It also has a Best Practices category |
Field data source | The Chrome User Experience Report (CrUX), pulled from real Chrome users. PSI reports the 75th percentile and uses it for the pass/fail assessment |
Core Web Vitals | Three metrics: LCP, INP and CLS. Thresholds are LCP 2.5 seconds, INP 200 milliseconds, CLS 0.1 |
Key change | FID was deprecated and INP became an official Core Web Vital on March 12, 2024 |
Performance score caveat | The 0-100 number is a weighted composite of lab metrics that includes Speed Index and Total Blocking Time, neither of which is a Core Web Vital. It isn't itself a Core Web Vital |
Ranking impact | Google confirms Core Web Vitals are used by its ranking systems, but also says there is no single signal |
Related tools | Search Console's Core Web Vitals report (site-wide, field data), web.dev/measure (quick Lighthouse test), the CrUX API and the web-vitals JS library |
Cost | Free |
Main limitations | Lab scores are simulated and can differ from real-user experience. Field data needs enough Chrome traffic, so low-traffic pages may show none. PSI only reaches public URLs |
4. Screaming Frog SEO Spider (free version)
A desktop crawler that finds broken links, duplicate titles and missing meta descriptions. The free version caps at 500 URLs, which is plenty for small sites.

Category | Details |
Company | Screaming Frog Limited, a UK-based company that runs both a digital marketing agency and a software business |
Founding details | Not in the sources I found. As far as I know, it was founded around 2010 in the UK, but verify that |
Main product | SEO Spider, a desktop crawler for Windows, Mac and Linux. It follows links and reads HTML like a search engine bot, then flags issues |
Free version | No account needed, with a 500 URL crawl limit. It covers broken links, errors and redirects, page titles and meta data, directives, hreflang, exact duplicates, XML sitemaps, site visualizations and scheduling |
Paid licence | Removes the 500 URL cap. Adds JavaScript rendering, crawl comparison, near-duplicate content, structured data validation, spelling and grammar checks, custom extraction, forms-based authentication, and integrations with Google Analytics, Search Console and PageSpeed Insights |
Price | Sources conflict: £199 per licence per year on the official pricing page, with volume breaks down to £169; one 2026 listing says £209. A Singapore guide cites about $259 or €239 |
Licence terms | Lasts one year, then you renew. One user can activate it on more than one machine, but keys can't be shared between users |
Crawl capacity | The maximum URL count depends on allocated memory and storage |
Newer features | The paid version lists crawling with OpenAI and Gemini and accessibility auditing |
API | No public API for the Spider itself, though the paid licence connects to GA4, Search Console and PageSpeed Insights |
Typical users | SEO professionals, marketers and agencies. Many consultants use the free version indefinitely for quick audits |
Main limitations | It surfaces data but doesn't prioritize fixes. The free version caps at 500 URLs and lacks the advanced features |
5. Bing Webmaster Tools
The underrated twin of Search Console. It adds Bing data and its own diagnostics, and it's free.

Category | Details |
Maker | Microsoft |
What it is | A free service for managing how a website appears in Bing. It's Bing's counterpart to Google Search Console |
Cost | Free, with full access to all features |
Setup | Sign in with a Microsoft account (Google or Facebook sign-in also works). If your site is already verified in Google Search Console, you can import it and skip manual verification |
Search Performance | Clicks, impressions and positions for Bing. It also shows crawl requests, crawl errors and indexed pages in the same report |
AI Performance report | Launched in 2026. It tracks citations in Microsoft Copilot, Bing AI summaries and select partner integrations. It lists "Grounding Queries" (the phrases the AI used to find cited content) and the pages cited |
Diagnostics | Site Scan for technical issues, plus robots.txt and sitemap tools. It can also analyze any page and highlight SEO issues |
Site Explorer | Previously Index Explorer. It shows your site structure as Bing's crawlers see it, with index status and performance by folder. Google Search Console lacks an equivalent visual view |
Research tools | Backlink analysis and keyword research, per a Microsoft-focused review |
Indexing | You can submit several URLs at once, which Search Console doesn't allow. It also supports IndexNow and a URL Submission API; a WordPress plugin exists too |
APIs | REST APIs for the tools |
Why it matters | ChatGPT uses Bing's index, and the indexation features may increase the chance of being cited by ChatGPT and Copilot, per one source |
Limitations | One review calls it basic compared with paid platforms. It only covers Bing, not Google |
6. Semrush (free account)
Includes free content tools such as an SEO Writing Assistant that suggests optimization, readability and keyword improvements. Daily limits apply.

Category | Details |
Founded | 2008, after starting in 2006 as the SEOquake personal SEO tool built by Oleg Shchegolev and Dmitry Melnikov |
Ownership | Adobe, which bought it for about $1.9B at $12 per share. The deal closed April 28, 2026. It had traded on the NYSE as SEMR since a March 2021 IPO |
Adobe integration | Folded into Adobe's CX Enterprise offering alongside Adobe Experience Manager, Adobe LLM Optimizer and Adobe Commerce |
HQ | Boston, MA, with a distributed team. Offices included Barcelona, Prague, Warsaw, Limassol and Austin as of 2022 |
Leadership | Bill Wagner became CEO after co-founder Oleg Shchegolev moved to CTO. I didn't confirm whether Wagner is still CEO after the acquisition |
Size | About 1,500+ employees and 28M+ marketers on the platform, per recent profiles |
Revenue | $254.3M in 2022, $376.8M in 2024 and $443.6M reported for 2025 |
Core product | Digital marketing platform for SEO, PPC, content marketing, social media and local SEO, plus AI visibility tools for brand mentions in AI search. Semrush One bundles the SEO toolkit with AI Visibility |
Free account | 10 searches per day, with up to 10 results per report |
SEO Writing Assistant | Real-time analysis of SEO score, readability, originality and tone, with Google Docs and WordPress integrations. One review lists it under Guru-level content tools, so check whether the free account includes it |
Paid plans | Pro, Guru and Business, with a 7-day free trial. Pro crawls 100K pages a month in Site Audit, Guru 300K and Business 1M |
Other free offerings | Free tools such as an SEO Checker and a free AI assistant, Copilot, included in all plans |
Acquisitions | Backlinko, Traffic Think Tank (2023), Datos assets and Ryte (2024) |

How to build your stack
Start with the free, first-party tools (1, 3 and 5). They're free in the true sense; many other "free" tools are trials or limited plans.
Add a crawler (4) and a backlink view (2) once the basics are in place.
Use the rest for quick checks, such as client reports, meta tags and keyword ideas.
Fix issues in order of impact: indexing and errors first, then speed, then titles and descriptions.
Re-check monthly. Vendors often shrink or remove free tiers, so older rankings can be out of date.
